Star Trails Over the Brienzersee
As part of an adventure to Europe, we stopped for a few days at the Grandhotel Geissbach (pronounced 'geese-bock' in English), located on the Brienzersee (lake Brienz, pronounce 'breenz') east of Interlaken, Switzerland. From the terrace, Nancy and I set up for this shot, and I must say that it was the most civilized astrophoto I've ever taken. Just inside the hotel behind us, a band played in honor of Madame Vulcan, celebrating her 60th birthday with friends and family, and outside, Nancy poured a nice Swiss Merlot we picked up in Interlaken. The shot was going to be 1.5 hours, but had to be cut short due to the fireworks display set up for said Madame at midnight. One of the party guests came outside and asked me if I was the photographer hired to shoot the fireworks display for the party! The glow at the end of the lake is Interlaken, and the small hamlets along the north shore provide reflections on the lake.
