San Mateo Mountains, Cibola National Forest, NM
This place is the darkest site I've ever been to, and one I intend to visit again. It's about 25 miles south of the Very Large Array of radio telescope dishes west of Socorro, New Mexico, in a largely uninhabited part of the world. There are no artificial lights visible from this site, and only a tiny amount of sky glow from Socorro to the northeast. The photo below is a view to the southeast, and shows the excellent southern exposure available from the site. There are probably several more level spots to set up in this area, but since it's 8.5 hours from Colorado Springs, I haven't had the time to explore the entire area yet.
